Changes

If we had the chance to change anything we would change out timeing, our last draft was a bit to long, we couldnt make shorter baceuse as our audience feedback said it could make less effective so we dicided to leave as it was:

Final Draft Filming Day

Today we filmed our final draft of our opening sequence, it was very hard because as it was the final we were very worried that everything should be perfect. We started at 14:00pm and finished at 19:00, we filmed all the flashbacks and on Monday we are starting editing everything.

Continuity

After presenting the 3rd Draft of our opening sequence to the whole class we realized that we had some continuity problems:
  • When she is sat at the door there is a cut when she goes to the sink
  • At the shower, when she goes down the glass the light and her position changes
  • When she sits down at the shower, in one shoot her hands are in her face and in the other, they are in her legs.
However we had this problems in some parts of our other drafts, so i decided to research about continuity and learn how to improve for our next draft.

What is Continuity???
Continuity in terms of props costume and locations, and the same rule applies with actors. It is the consistency of characters props and making sure that things are the same, at all times when filming.

In this videos we can see very well the mistakes made with continuity:

So after researching and looking at different ways that people can make continuity problems, i realized that even in TV they make this mistakes. They all professional they have more cameras, and they don`t have to repeat the shot 3-5 times to get different angles and they still have difficulties to get it right, we have only one camera, and we still learning how to film etc...so its more likely that we will make this mistakes.

What are the ways in which we can prevent continuity errors?

  • Write a list of props and costume
  • Take a picture or a video of what is happening- as theremight be intervals (days) between time of shooting.)
  • Also noting down the time of day as this may effect continuity as to what is taking place and when. Example:If we film our first scene in the evening and then our next scene which is suppose to continue from this in the the late evening. This would confuse the audience as to what is taking place and when it is suppose to take place.
  • Make sure the actors are in the exact same place they were in the previous shot.

Opening Sequence 3rd Draft

WWW: (what went well)

  • Good match on action when she is going inside the house
  • The music and the sound effects on the flashbacks work realy well with each scene.
  • Follow the rule of flashback > Reality & focus in her face before and after a flashback, so the audience doesn`t get confused.
EBI: (even better if)
  • Shots are to long
  • Add more flashbacks at the shower scene
Teacher Assesement:
  • With more flashback the pace will get faster and it will show she is frustrated.
Target:
  • Film different flashbacks
  • Improve continuity

3rd Draft Filming Day

Today Tiara and Nkechi came to my house so we could film the 3rd draft of our opening sequence. Firstly as usual we sat down to plan what we had to improve from the previous drafts. However we were really exited because after so long the toilet was finished and we manage to start to film again, the only disadvantage was that we lost the chance to do a draft, but while the toilet was getting ready we were thinking about different ways of improving our next draft. Overall it was a really good day we manage to film the whole opening sequence we just hope that the editinggoes fine aswell.

Problems with our Location

Unfortunately we had a problem with our location, just after our 2nd draft my father had to re-build the bathroom, and instead of a bath we are going to have a shower, its taking more time then we thought it would. Therefore we are cant film our 3th draft before everything is finished, this made as stay behind in our work, but we are working very hard planing our 3th draft as is going to be our final one.

We thought about 2 solutions to this problem,
  •  Change the location to another bathroom, but then we couldnt find a bathroom that had a lot o sun light coming in.
  •  Change the idea completely and start from the beginning , but we didnt have time star again and get a good grade.
  • After all the solution is to wait into the bathroom is done so we can film.

We hope this gets done as soon as posible so we can carry on working in our opening sequence.

Meeting with Miss Connell

Today i sat with Miss Connell to discuss about the mistakes we were having on our second draft. She said they were very simple to fix and she advised us with some help:
Add more Flashbacks
Make the shots as shorter as possible
Establish the character( maybe with a voice over at the beggining)
Have more match on action when she is going into the house and when she is going up the stairs.

I found her help very useful because it always guides us to the right direction, and we are always focusing on making things better.
